S&R international: we're on the European market

With new headquarters in Spain, we present our first project on the Costa Brava, in Saint Feliu de Guixols

Few time to complete 35 years in the Brazilian market, we are now celebrating a remarkable and very important achievement for our office: 2021 marks the opening of our operations in Barcelona. The first project destined for European market is a house in Saint Feliu de Guixols, at Costa Brava, a renowned landscape on the Mediterranean Sea.

The internationalization is a natural movement for our expansion, reaffirming our identity's timeless vision, as well as marking the entry of four new young architects to the society previously formed by the founders Ingrid Stemmer, Paulo Henrique Rodrigues and Roberto Stemmer.

In Barcelona, Mariano Chitarrini is the architect responsible for the new business operation. Mariano has a background in the Catalan architecture studio MIRAG Arquitectura i Gestió, specialising in Housing and Retail, and in 2017 he founded his own design studio. He is now the representative of Stemmer Rodrigues in Europe.

Casa Falcó, on the Costa Brava

Located on the Costa Brava, about 100km from Barcelona, the lush town of Saint Feliu de Guixols, is the setting for this new project. Amidst native vegetation, the site occupies a slope overlooking the Mediterranean.

The house project was implemented transversally, in a horizontal plan, with two main volumes. In this region, harmony with the surroundings is a premise, which defined the use of white concrete, as well as the sober shapes, with large overhanging marquises. A sinuous line of wooden panels connects the two volumes, the social area and the suites, both protected by slabs with green roofs.

The main rooms, such as the living and bedrooms, are facing south, privileged by the sea view and the best solar orientation. The interior design is minimalist, valuing the furniture in natural wood from Brazilian designers, in line with the sculptural concept of the residence.

The landscaping with native species frames the house for those viewing it from the sea, while the green roof mimics the construction on the façade facing the street.
